Fixed-Route Bus Service
Fixed-route bus service is an important assett for many in Kalamazoo County. Ridership from 2011 to 2012 saw 9% growth and is a large reason that transit system ridership exceeded 3 million rides in 2012. For 2013 fixed-route bus service is expected to grow by an additional 4%.
The fixed-route bus system utilizes 20 routes to serve the Kalamazoo County urbanized area and serves the following jurisdictions:
•City of Kalamazoo
•City of Portage
•City of Parchment
The fixed-run sysytem is operated by Kalamazoo Metro Transit. For line haul route information, click here. Service runs Monday through Saturday from 6 am to 10:15 pm. The base fare is $1.50 per ride, view the full fare structure here.
The chart below depicts ridership on the fixed-route system as well as Western Michigan University student ridership (please not that WMU ridership is included in the total fixed-route ridership). WMU ridership has increased over 11% from 2011 to 2012, and ridership in 2012 exceeded 700,000 rides.
